GiG is approaching the completion of its acquisition of an 80% stake in 888Africa, marking a significant new chapter for the group. It is an unexpected return to B2C for GiG, but one that group CFO Phil Richards believes can deliver immediate earnings while providing a stronger foothold in Africa.

Last month, GiG Software plc announced plans to acquire an 80% stake in Evoke’s 888Africa, in a deal valued at up to €16.4 million ($19.1 million).

To fund the acquisition, the company intends to raise €2.5 million through a directed share issue and €6 million through convertible debt. The deal marks its return to B2C after becoming a pure play B2B platform play in 2023.

The charter also made a series of other recommendations. It suggested that companies should designate a senior member of staff responsible for governance of the technology. It additionally recommended an AI oversight or ethics committee.

The framework also urged companies to implement rollback mechanisms and “kill-switch” controls for higher-impact systems.

For AI-powered customer support and chat, operators are encouraged to set clear parameters for when conversations should be moved to a human member of staff. These include repeated low-confidence responses, unresolved queries, indications of distress, or a customer simply asking to speak to a human.

It remained Codere Online’s largest market in Q2, generating €36.1 million in NGR, a 24% year-on-year rise. Chief Executive Aviv Sher said the company would continue investing as the market grows more competitive.

In an April interview with iGB, Sher reflected on the challenges of regulatory uncertainty in Mexico

“Right now we are working based on a framework of laws which you cannot even call regulation, from 1947,” Sher said. “So it’s very hard to work long-term and to give long-term commitments. While the future is unclear in terms of regulation, we saw what happened in other countries in LatAm when they changed the regulation every other month.
